First Snow Nearly Upon Us: Weather Experts Predict Significant Cold Snap and Arrival of Winter Weather
October in Ukraine will bring not only the usual seasonal transition but also the first snowfall of the season.
Well-known meteorologist Natalia Didenko has announced that in the coming days, atmospheric temperature drops will commence across the country, preparing the ground for winter chills.
According to her forecast, from October 18, cold weather will set in, primarily affecting western regions where daytime temperatures will fall to 8-12°C.
Meanwhile, the rest of Ukraine might experience slightly warmer conditions — up to 12-15°C during the day, but this will only last for a single day.
Night temperatures will drop to 4-10°C, with clouds shielding most areas from frosts, except for the Carpathians, where temperatures could dip even lower.
Kyiv on October 18 will see humid, cloudy weather with likely rains in the afternoon.
Winds will blow from the southwest at moderate to gusty speeds.
On October 19, a sharp cooling trend will hit most regions, with daytime temperatures falling to 4-8°C, while eastern and southern areas might still enjoy milder weather up to 11-15°C.
Rain is expected everywhere with the possibility of wet snow due to the significant temperature decrease.
By October 20, the cold snap will settle in across Ukraine, heralding an early start to the winter, which meteorologists predict will be notably cold for the 2025-2026 season.
