White House: Trump Still Hopes to Arrange Zelensky-Putin Meeting Despite Challenges
Inside circles of the White House, the possibility of organizing negotiations between U.S.
President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is once again under discussion.
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated on Thursday during a briefing that Trump still believes there is a chance to hold such a meeting, which could be pivotal in seeking peace and regional stability.
She mentioned that active discussions are ongoing, and plans are being developed for a meeting between Russian officials and the U.S.
delegation led by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
This process could also include a potential subsequent conversation between Putin and Trump, representing an essential diplomatic effort.
Leavitt emphasized that President Trump has not ruled out a meeting with Zelensky and Putin, and negotiations are currently ongoing regarding the dates and formats of future talks.
It is noteworthy that on the same day, the leaders of the U.S.
and Russia conducted their first phone conversation in nearly two months, discussing regional issues and possible further steps toward resolving the conflict.
Following the call, Trump announced plans to hold another meeting — this time in Budapest — to discuss Ukraine’s situation and other pressing matters.
One of the main topics at upcoming negotiations will be the possible provision of Ukraine with long-range missile systems like Tomahawk, which would significantly enhance Kyiv’s defense capabilities and act as a deterrent against Russian aggression.
