Trump open to the possibility of a Zelensky-Putin meeting: White House discusses negotiations
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, remains open to the idea of holding direct talks between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt, consultations are currently underway between American and Russian officials regarding the organization of such a meeting.
Leavitt clarified that although no final decision has been made yet, there is a possibility that the meeting could take place, and Trump would be pleased if it did.The White House has indicated that preparations include the organization of delegations’ talks, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
A new round of negotiations between Trump and Putin is expected, signaling increasing interest in finding peace and resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.Leavitt stated that Trump has not closed the door on the possibility of a meeting and is interested in organizing a trilateral summit involving Zelensky, Putin, and himself to find ways to end the war.
Previously, ahead of Putin’s visit to Alaska, Trump expressed his desire to facilitate peace and actively pursued diplomatic efforts in that direction.
However, none of these plans have been officially confirmed so far.
