Orban expresses happiness over potential Trump-Putin summit in Budapest

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has expressed his enthusiasm regarding the possibility of hosting a summit between former U.S.

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest.

According to Orbán, he fully supports the idea, viewing it as an important step towards reducing international tensions.

The Hungarian leader stated that his country is prepared to welcome the leaders of the two largest nuclear powers for discussions on security and stability worldwide.

This is not the first time Orbán has shown openness to high-level dialogue.

A source from ‘European Truth’ reports that Orbán called the potential meeting ‘great news for peace-loving people around the world.’ He added, ‘We are ready!’ and hopes that such a meeting will help ease tensions and promote solutions to ongoing conflicts.

Previously, U.S.

President Donald Trump announced plans to meet with Putin in Budapest following their phone conversation—the first in two months—where they discussed the situation in Ukraine.

The first face-to-face meeting of the American and Russian leaders took place on August 15, 2025, in Anchorage, Alaska.

After that meeting, Trump became more critical of Putin, especially regarding Russia’s reluctance to halt hostilities in Ukraine.

Conversely, dialogue between Kyiv and Washington has improved significantly, indicating a shift in regional dynamics and a search for new pathways for cooperation.
