Historic Victory for Morocco National Team: Setting a World Record in Football
The Moroccan national football team has achieved an unprecedented milestone in the history of African and world football by winning a record-breaking series of matches that will be etched into the sport’s history books.
In a crucial qualifier match for the 2026 World Cup, Morocco narrowly defeated Congo 1-0, thanks to a decisive goal scored by Fenerbahçe forward Youssef En-Nesyri.
This victory not only secured their place in Group E but also marked a historic achievement, as Morocco became the first team ever to win 16 consecutive official international matches, setting a new world record.
The last time Morocco experienced a defeat was in March 2024 during a goalless draw against Mauritania.
This feat surpasses previous records held by football giants such as Spain and Germany, who previously recorded streaks of 15 wins.
Morocco’s team is considered one of the strongest in Africa, proven by their impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup, where they finished in fourth place, led by captain Achraf Hakimi, a prominent PSG defender and Champions League winner.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the USA, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, and for the first time in history, 48 teams will participate, making the tournament more expansive and exciting.
Over 39 days, a record 104 matches will be played, further emphasizing the global appeal of this event.
Notably, football superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also made headlines by setting new team-based records, adding to the anticipation ahead of the tournament.
As of now, 28 national teams have qualified to face off on the world’s biggest football stage.
