Ukrainian General Staff confirms disbandment of ‘Dnipro’ military group and explains reasons behind the decision

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Command confirmed the official dissolution of the operational-strategic military formation ‘Dnipro.’ According to officials from the General Staff, this move is driven by the implementation of a new corps-based management system within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which has become the primary mechanism for coordinating and commanding troops during combat operations.
It is important to note that the creation of the ‘Dnipro’ operational-strategic grouping was temporary and not part of the regular military structure, so its disbandment does not pose any threat to the country’s defense capabilities.
Major General Mykhailo Drapaty remains the commander of the United Forces and will continue to oversee the relevant military units in the battlefield region.
The General Staff emphasizes that this reorganization will not impair troop management and is aimed at improving command efficiency amid ongoing hostilities.
In response to a ‘Suspilne’ inquiry, officials stated that these changes would not negatively impact the operational situation at the front and are intended to enhance military management effectiveness.
Recently, reports emerged about the dismissal of commanders of the 17th and 20th corps, prompting wide media discussions.
Some sources suggest that the disbandment of this grouping might be part of a strategic move by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi to reduce internal competition in the military hierarchy, potentially aimed at sidelining General Drapaty, who led the ‘Dnipro’ unit for the past eight months, thus strengthening his influence within Ukraine’s military command.
