Disbandment of Kasianov’s Unit: Implications and Controversies in Ukraine’s Defense Sector

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced the unexpected disbandment of the shock drone unit established by Yuriy Kasianov, a renowned expert in aerial reconnaissance and founder of the drone bureau Matrix-UAV.
This decision has sparked widespread debate and protests among military analysts and activists, who fear it could hinder the further development of Ukrainian drone technology and defense strategy.
According to DHS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko, the unit, formed in April 2024, was deemed ineffective due to lack of sufficient operational results despite the deployment of numerous UAV systems.
Furthermore, doubts have been raised about the confirmed damages inflicted on targets by this unit, leading to mixed reactions from society and military authorities.
Meanwhile, Kasianov claims that the disbandment is an act of revenge and sabotage, calling for protests and emphasizing that his initiatives aim to improve Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The decision has also garnered negative reactions across various sectors, as experts warn about potential threats to Ukraine’s military resilience and the diminished implementation of advanced technologies in defense.
