Belgorod Under Attack: Explosions and Major Damage to Energy Infrastructure

In the city of Belgorod, located in northeastern Russia, a serious incident occurred that sparked a wave of emotions and concern among the local population.
On the evening of October 5th, powerful explosions were heard throughout the city, causing damage not only to infrastructure but also affecting residents.
According to eyewitnesses and published videos, parts of the city were left without electricity.
Governor of Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that the cause was damage to energy facilities, including the gas turbine power plant ‘Luch.’ The attack destroyed electrical substations supplying power not only to the city center but also to surrounding districts, plunging thousands into darkness.
Authorities immediately dispatched all emergency crews to respond swiftly and restore electricity.
Additionally, it is reported that local hospitals switched to backup power to continue providing assistance to the injured.
Meanwhile, Russia issued a missile warning signal in the region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russia attempts to create a blackout in Ukraine, a symmetrical response will follow.
The Kremlin must understand that any attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, could trigger a similar retaliation against Moscow.
Ukrainian officials emphasize that all military actions must strictly adhere to international law and focus on peaceful resolution of the conflict.
