Zelensky Orders Comprehensive Investigation into Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure Damage
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a direct and formal instruction to carry out a comprehensive and meticulous assessment of the state of the country’s energy infrastructure following two large-scale missile and drone attacks carried out by Russian forces.
In a time when Ukraine is under near-daily strikes targeting critical infrastructure, the leader emphasized the necessity of uniting efforts across the government, security agencies, and energy companies to respond swiftly and restore damaged facilities.
Zelensky personally plans to monitor the situation in each region to verify the accuracy of the reports and to clarify the actual needs of local communities.
In his recent video address on October 5, he reported intensified attacks early that morning, with Russian forces hitting energy facilities, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and railway hubs.
The President criticized the international community for its inadequate response, highlighting that these strikes are an attempt to destroy Ukraine’s energy system before winter arrives.
He pointed out that Russia continues these actions under the guise of a failed summer offensive, which he described as terrorist attacks targeting civilians and infrastructure.
The night of October 5 saw over 549 airstrikes, mostly using drones and missiles, causing extensive destruction and casualties.
Approximately 500 of the drones used contained components sourced from the USA, China, Taiwan, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
As a result of the attacks, three people died in Lviv, including a 15-year-old student, with another victim confirmed in Zaporizhzhia.
The main hits affected the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad regions, leaving behind scenes of widespread destruction and human tragedy.
