Russia amplifies propaganda through ‘Russkie Doma’ in Global South countries

In the current geopolitical landscape, Russia is increasingly utilizing the so-called ‘Russkie Doma’ program to spread propaganda and manipulation in countries of the Global South, pretending to showcase cultural and sports revival in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Russian occupiers are organizing special screenings in these nations, presenting propaganda films disguised as documentaries that allegedly depict the rebirth of culture and sports in these regions.
Such events have taken place in countries like Argentina, India, Egypt, Cambodia, Nicaragua, and elsewhere across different continents.
The CCD emphasizes that, with the aim of influencing international public opinion, Russia intensifies its information campaigns through exhibitions and events that are cloaked as cultural or sporting initiatives.
Additionally, they actively promote materials such as photo exhibitions claiming to depict the ‘revival of Mariupol’ or showcase images of children killed in Donbas, labeling them as ‘victims of Kyiv’s regime.’ In reality, according to the CCD, these children lost their lives as a consequence of the war launched by Russia itself, which employs repression and violence.
The center notes that the purpose of these actions is to justify Russia’s invasion and strengthen its influence in the countries of the Global South through manipulation and disinformation.
Previously, the CCD reported on a video allegedly showing Ukrainian soldiers surrendering in Kupyansk; further analysis by the center revealed that this footage was generated using artificial intelligence to create an illusion of Russian military successes and to demoralize Ukrainian defenders.
