Kharkiv Teacher Wins Prestigious National Award at the 2025 Global Teacher Prize Ukraine

The best teacher of the year according to the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2025 has been announced.
Renowned Ukrainian educator from Kharkiv, Ruslan Shalamov, received this prestigious recognition, which is awarded annually for outstanding achievements in the education sector across Ukraine.
This award reflects his dedicated efforts and commitment to developing Ukrainian education, as well as promoting innovative teaching methods and reforms.
Ruslan Shalamov is well known for his unique approaches to teaching biology and ecology, and his active involvement in the reform of the New Ukrainian School (NUS), a major educational initiative by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
He has mentored dozens of students who have excelled at international Olympiads and competitions, authored numerous textbooks and training sessions for colleagues aimed at enhancing educational quality.
His contributions to education include over 50 published books and textbooks, with ten approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and incorporated into school curricula.
Ran by his academic background, Ruslan holds a PhD in biochemistry, and many of his alumni now teach at leading universities worldwide.
Over the years, he has conducted hundreds of training sessions, promoting child-centered and competency-based approaches among teachers.
The victory comes with a financial prize of one million hryvnias, intended to help him realize his educational dreams and initiatives.
This year’s competition saw a record 2,300 nominations from all regions of Ukraine, with finalists shortlisted from more than 250 candidates.
A panel of 14 experts conducted in-depth interviews and cast their votes in secret, ultimately selecting the top teacher who will contribute even more to the ongoing educational reforms and societal development in Ukraine.
