Heroic Efforts of Intelligence Officers: Over 1,500 Ukrainians Rescued Abroad in Four Years

Over the past four years, officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have demonstrated extraordinary heroism by rescuing over 1,500 Ukrainian citizens from outside the homeland.
They have written a new chapter in their history, executing numerous complex and risky evacuation missions in regions where security conditions became critical and life-threatening for Ukrainians.
During this period, more than 1,500 Ukrainian citizens have been saved from various parts of the world as part of national efforts.
According to official reports from the GUR press service, between 2021 and 2025, the unit worked closely with diplomats in conducting large-scale missions in Israel, Iran, Gaza Strip, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, and Afghanistan, focusing on urgent assistance and safety.
Given the complex global situation, these tasks were extremely responsible and required high professionalism and bravery.
Besides saving compatriots, military intelligence officers assisted hundreds of foreign nationals caught in dangerous regions.
Notably, this week, 48 citizens evacuated from Gaza arrived in Ukraine to reunite with their families, in a joint operation organized by the GUR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This is yet another example of the unprecedented work performed by Ukrainian special services under challenging modern conditions.
