Remembering Oleksa Shalaysky: Renowned Investigative Journalist Passes Away

On the night of October 4th, a tragic event shocked Ukraine — the passing of one of the most influential Ukrainian investigative journalists and co-founder of the popular online publication “Our Money,” Oleksa Shalaysky.
His sudden death was announced by colleague and friend Serhii Syrovatska on social media, who specified that the cause was a heart disease that overwhelmed the dedicated and principled journalist.
The information was also confirmed by Yuriy Nikoloh, co-founder and colleague at “Our Money.” According to Syrovatska, Oleksa was a man of great soul and unyielding pursuit of truth, with a heart symbolizing ideological strength.
Throughout his career, he was highly respected for his in-depth investigations exposing corruption schemes and abuses of power.
Born in the late 1980s, Oleksa began his journalistic journey working for a student newspaper, later joining various Ukrainian media outlets such as “PiK,” ForUm, ProUA, and ZN.UA.
His most significant contribution was in investigative journalism, having established the online platform “Our Money” alongside Yuriy Nikoloh, which became Ukraine’s leading source for uncovering corruption and misconduct.
