Lithuanian Minister of Culture Resigns Over Provocative Question on Crimea

Lithuanian Minister of Culture Ignas Adomavičius recently stepped down amid unexpected remarks and his inability to provide a clear answer regarding Crimea’s status.
During an interview published by the Lrytas portal, the politician was asked a provocative question about the ownership of the peninsula, which he refused to answer, labeling it as provocative and inappropriate within diplomatic discussions.
The presidential office viewed such statements as unacceptable, raising doubts about his capacity to fulfill governmental duties, leading to strong criticism.
According to Adomavičius, he decided to resign to protect his family and the public, as well as to prevent obstacles in government work.
His resignation occurred just a week after his appointment.
In his final comments, he stated that this step would allow him to focus on substantive issues rather than on formalities.
The politician emphasized that it was his personal decision, made independently and without external pressure.
He also expressed hope that his resignation would help de-escalate tensions and stabilize the situation, as continued diplomatic misunderstandings only shake public opinion and the country’s political course.
