Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Yeletskyi: From Infantryman to Unmanned Aerial Systems Commander Who Eliminated Over 230 Invaders

The story of Dmytro Yeletskyi exemplifies modern Ukrainian heroism, showcasing fearless dedication to the fight for independence and territorial integrity.
As the commander of a drone unit within the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko, Yeletskyi was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine along with the Order of the Golden Star for his extraordinary courage and heroism.
The award was personally presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 1st during Ukraine’s Defender’s Day celebrations in Kyiv, an event attended by thousands of patriots and service members.
Yeletskyi has served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2014, initially as an infantryman.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, he was among the first to develop and deploy unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities in his unit, greatly enhancing Ukraine’s reconnaissance and targeted strike operations.
Thanks to his efforts, at least 230 enemy occupiers were neutralized, with over 230 more wounded.
His forces also destroyed a T-72 tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, eight artillery pieces, and a mortar battery.
In 2024–2025, Yeletskyi was responsible for intelligence gathering, fire adjustment, and supporting assault and defensive operations in the Kursk region.
His dedication highlights the vital role of Ukrainian defenders in the ongoing fight for sovereignty, embodying resilience and patriotism celebrated annually on Defender’s Day.
