Ukraine has concluded a large-scale operation against Russian agents attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian military structures to gather intelligence.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine, one of these traitors was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

He is accused of treason against Ukraine and of attempting to recruit other foreign agents under the guise of a chaplain.

Official information states that the suspect, who worked for the GRU of Russia, tried to join the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces to collect geolocation data of Ukrainian military bases and front-line positions.

The traitor was detained in Kyiv during an interview for admission to Ukrainian military units, and investigators established that he was recruited by an agent from Russia’s 317th Reconnaissance Centre.

As part of the plan, he intended to leak information about troop whereabouts and movements, personal data of military personnel, and to assist in adjusting Russian airstrikes on Kyiv.

The court found him guilty of treason under martial law and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment.
