Russia Disseminates Fake Video of Ukrainian Prisoners in Kupiansk: CPD Warns of Disinformation

Russia has once again intensified efforts to spread disinformation aimed at Ukraine.
Russian propaganda outlets circulated a video claiming to show Ukrainian soldiers from the 114th Territorial Defense Brigade captured in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region.
However, the Center for Countering Disinformation (CPD) quickly responded, confirming that these images are artificially created using artificial intelligence technology.
Experts noted that actors were employed in the footage, with their faces manipulated and synthetic voices overlaid, indicating a clear forgery.
Notably, one of the ‘soldiers’ shows no movement of lips during speech, further evidencing the video’s artificial nature.
The CPD emphasizes that the primary goal of such fakes is to give an illusion of Russian military successes in Kupiansk and to undermine the morale of Ukrainian defenders.
These actions are part of a broader disinformation campaign, including dissemination of false videos on social media platforms like TikTok, where Ukrainian soldiers are depicted negatively to erode public trust and psychological resilience.
Previously, the CPD reported similar cases of fabricated videos containing sensational claims about internal conflicts within Ukrainian forces or psychological pressure, aimed at discrediting Ukraine on the international stage.
