Kyiv Honours Heroes: Veteran Awards and Remembrance of Ukraine’s Defenders on Defender’s Day

On Wednesday, November 1, Kyiv hosted a solemn ceremony dedicated to the Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine, celebrating the courage and dedication of those who have stood in defense of the independence and territorial integrity of the country.

The event centered around the awarding of medals ‘For the Defense of Ukraine’ to veterans, symbolizing gratitude and respect for their invaluable contributions.

The ceremony took place in a Kyiv cultural institution and was attended not only by veterans but also by government officials, military personnel, public figures, and volunteers.

Attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of fallen heroes before hearing words of appreciation from Minister of Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova and her First Deputy, veteran Viktor Baidachny.

The speeches emphasized that this day is more than a calendar date; it is a symbol of unity and gratitude from every Ukrainian to their defenders.

Kalmykova highlighted the importance of veterans as persons of honor whose leadership and resilience inspire society both in wartime and peace.

She expressed confidence that the bravery and steadfastness of Ukraine’s defenders are crucial to the nation’s future and urged both current and former military personnel to uphold values of courage and dedication.

The event concluded with the unveiling of the ‘Mariupol Justice’ exhibition at the Lviv Lavra, serving as a powerful symbol of memory and justice for Ukraine.
