Unyielding Hero: The Story of a Sniper Who Continued Fighting After Getting Shot in the Leg

On Ukraine’s Defender’s Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky honored the brave soldier, Senior Sergeant Dmytro Pohrebak, awarding him the Order of Courage, II degree.
This is a story of resilience and steadfastness: during a fierce battle in Pishchane in January 2025, when the enemy attempted to seize a Ukrainian position, Dmytro was wounded by a bullet in the leg but continued actively fighting and covering his comrades.
The award ceremony took place as part of the Defender’s Day celebrations.
According to the press service of the 3rd Border Guard Unit named after Ukrainian Hero Colonel Yevhen Pikus, Dmytro has been participating in combat operations since early 2024 in the hottest sectors of the front: Ivanivske, Pershotravneve, Serebrianka, and Kupiansk directions.
Through perseverance and personal bravery, he and his comrades managed to hold their positions despite intense enemy attacks.
A notable incident occurred on January 29, 2025, during a fierce battle near Pishchane, when Dmytro, along with his comrades, held their position and repelled multiple enemy assaults.
Despite being wounded, he continued to lead fire and inflicted losses on the enemy.
His courage and efforts ultimately caused the enemy to retreat.
This case emphasizes the importance of personal heroism of Ukrainian defenders, who risk their lives to secure the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Dmytro Pohrebak was awarded during a ceremony dedicated to Ukraine’s Defender’s Day for his bravery, dedication, and heroism in defending the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
