Violations of Military Registration Rules: What Ukrainians Need to Know During Wartime

Chas Pravdy - 29 September 2025 04:34

Amid the ongoing military aggression by Russia, Ukraine has declared martial law and implemented a general mobilization.

During such extraordinary circumstances, every person liable for military service must be fully aware of their responsibilities and meticulously adhere to the established military registration procedures to avoid legal violations and potential sanctions.

Lidia Karplyuk, a lawyer from Grain Law Firm, explained to UNIAN the actions that are considered violations of military registration rules and the possible consequences.

Among the most common violations are failure to appear for summons at the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TRSK) and failure to pass the Military Medical Commission (MMC).

It is also crucial for those liable for military service to inform the military registration centers about any significant life changes, such as moving, getting married, obtaining education, or health status alterations.

Karplyuk pointed out that currently, there are no penalties for failing to report such information because most data are available through automated electronic interactions with government registers, reducing the risk of sanctions for non-disclosure.

She emphasized that electronic data exchange among authorities ensures up-to-date information on the status of military personnel, for example, in case of marriage or childbirth, which are recorded in civil registry offices.

Ignoring these rules can lead to serious consequences, including delays in military service and even criminal liability in cases of gross violations.

Additionally, it is important for employers and managers to understand how to properly account for their employees’ military registration status to avoid infractions and ensure compliance with wartime legal requirements.
