The CEO of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, Lei Jun, recently made significant remarks regarding his company’s research and development efforts in the electric vehicle industry, amidst rising competition with American powerhouse Tesla.

During his annual speech in Beijing, he announced that Xiaomi had purchased three Tesla Model Y vehicles, which were carefully disassembled and studied to understand their technical features and innovative solutions.According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s team meticulously analyzed the components of the Model Y, aiming to develop their own competitive electric vehicle that could rival Tesla both in technological innovation and quality.

He stated that the upcoming YU7 model, currently under development, might well match Tesla’s Model Y in design, functionality, and performance.Furthermore, Lei Jun compared the battery life of Xiaomi’s YU7 with that of Model Y, highlighting that Xiaomi’s electric vehicle offers impressive range and efficiency for its price point.

This statement came against the backdrop of Tesla’s declining sales in China, which dropped by 4% year-over-year.

The Chinese market is witnessing intensified competition, with local manufacturers like Xiaomi, Xpeng, and Nio offering more affordable electric vehicles, capturing a significant share of the growing market.Previously, Tesla signed a deal with Samsung to produce AI6 chips, essential for autonomous driving systems and onboard hardware.

Despite challenges and mounting competition, Tesla continues to invest heavily in technological advancements.Additionally, a legal case filed by Elon Musk’s xAI against OpenAI further underscores the high-stakes race for technological supremacy on the global stage, adding to the ongoing industry rivalry.
