A recent maritime incident in the Sea of Azov has grabbed public and military analysts’ attention.

In early August, the Russian small missile ship „Vysiny Volochok“, equipped with Kalibr missiles and part of the 41st Missile Ship and Boat Brigade, attempted to evade Ukrainian drones in the Temryuk Bay.

However, during its escape, it collided with the civilian tanker „Nazan“, leading to significant damage to both vessels.

According to intelligence reports and publicly available documents, the ship suffered notable hull deformations and structural damage, as detailed in photographs and a report by Captain 1st Rank Aleh Sardin.

Meanwhile, Russian air defenses reportedly shot down over thirty drones in the Sea of Azov and another eleven over occupied Crimea during the night of August 6–7.

The incident has caused widespread concern regarding the security of naval vessels in the region.
