Orban Calls on Zelensky to Cease Provocations and Escalation

Chas Pravdy - 28 September 2025 05:32

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban issued a stark public appeal to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky via social media, urging him to “stop provoking us!” In his concise post, Orban did not specify the details of what he was responding to but emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and expressed concern over potential provocations that could worsen diplomatic relations between the two nations.

He highlighted that Hungary is a member of NATO and the European Union, and implied that Ukraine would struggle to sustain itself without support from these organizations.

In his message, Orban asked Zelensky to cease actions that might deepen the conflict or escalate tensions in the region.

The background of this situation involves several contentious moments, notably Budapest’s critical statements regarding Ukraine’s policies concerning the Druzhba pipeline, as well as heightened regional tensions over energy security and national interests.

Previously, Orban labeled Zelensky’s comments on the energy security issue, specifically related to the pipeline, as “blackmail and threats,” warning of long-term consequences.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also announced plans to write a letter to U.S.

President Donald Trump concerning Ukraine’s attack on the Druzhba pipeline, expressing his discontent with the response received.

European institutions confirmed they are aware of the temporary halt in oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary, having received official correspondence from relevant authorities.

This ongoing tension continues to influence regional stability and the international standing of Ukraine and its neighboring countries.
