Lukashenko Threatens NATO with War Over Possible Russian Aircraft Shoot-Downs

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has publicly expressed his stance regarding potential conflict scenarios with NATO, particularly in the event the alliance attempts to shoot down Russian military aircraft violating the airspace.
In an interview with propagandist Pavel Zarubin, Lukashenko stated that if such provocations occur, Belarus and Russia would be compelled to engage in a full-scale war, openly declaring readiness to fight “with all they’ve got.” He emphasized that Belarusian forces do not intend to initiate attacks but questioned the likelihood of peaceful diplomatic resolutions.
Lukashenko claimed that NATO is intentionally escalating tensions to intimidate Minsk and Moscow, implying that their threats are designed to pressure Russia and Belarus into submission.
“Such statements are just theatrics, — he remarked.
— But when push comes to shove, you will see how serious we are.
Even if they shoot down a Belarusian or Russian helicopter, the response will follow immediately, escalating into a broader conflict.” He further suggested that NATO’s provocative rhetoric serves to sow fear and control the geopolitical situation, with Belarus and Russia prepared for any contingencies.
Lukashenko argued that current statements are irresponsible and unthought-out, warning that neighbors should not behave this way.
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has reiterated that the alliance has the right to shoot down Russian UAVs and aircraft that breach their airspace, while Moscow warns that such actions could trigger a full-scale military conflict between Russia and NATO, potentially leading to a prolonged and wider war.
