Russian Forces Press Forward in Northern Donetsk: New Territorial Gains and Frontline Developments

Chas Pravdy - 27 September 2025 03:26

Over recent days, the northern region of Donetsk has seen an increase in activity from Russian military units, which are apparently making significant advances towards several key settlements.

According to reports from Ukrainian journalists and international analysts, the enemy has achieved notable success in the Lyman sector, particularly near the village of Yampil.

Updated maps from the DeepState resource and the recent report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirm that Russian troops have gained new positions, moved northeast, and are likely to have captured another small village — Zarichne. The frontline in the Lyman area remains tense.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, since the beginning of the day, Russian units launched over 19 attacks against Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Karpivka, Kolozi, Shandroholove, Zarichne, Torske, and Derilove.

The enemy aims to flank Ukrainian forces, conduct reconnaissance with drones and mortars, and provoke close engagements to dominate the battlefield. It is important to note that these actions hold strategic significance for Russia, which seeks to expand its controlled territories and weaken Ukrainian defenses in this sector.

Despite confirmation from Russia’s Ministry of Defense about the capture of Zarichne, assessments and analyses in the U.S.

and other countries indicate that the situation remains complex, and future developments are unpredictable.
