US and Turkey Sign Strategic Nuclear Cooperation Agreement: A New Era in Civil Nuclear Partnership
In a historic development for bilateral relations, Turkey and the United States of America formalized a significant agreement that marks the culmination of lengthy diplomatic negotiations.
The Memorandum of Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation was signed during a ceremonial event at the White House, following personal discussions between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Donald Trump.
Attending the signing were also Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and U.S.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
After the event, Bayraktar stated on social media that the new document symbolizes the beginning of a multilayered and profound partnership in civil nuclear energy, which promises to modernize both nations’ energy sectors and strengthen their mutual ties.
The agreement aligns with the primary goal of fostering collaborations in peaceful atomic energy, opening avenues for joint investments and technological advancements.
Experts emphasize that this accord holds significant importance for both countries, as it can improve Turkey’s energy sovereignty and deepen strategic relations with the U.S.
In addition, former President Trump suggested the possibility of lifting sanctions on Turkey and allowing it to purchase F-35 fighter jets, while also insisting that Ankara should cease importing Russian oil, factors that could influence the regional and political landscape of this cooperation.
