Sudden Leadership Change at ‘Ukrenergo’: A Major Shake-up in Ukraine’s Energy Sector
In recent developments within Ukraine’s energy sector, a surprising shift occurred at the management level of the company ‘Ukrenergo’.
According to information circulating in the media and citing government sources, the supervisory board decided to dismiss Vitaliy Zaychenko, who had assumed the position of chairman of the board just a few months prior in June 2025.
Notably, his appointment was recent, making this change unexpected for market participants and stakeholders.
The reasons and underlying motives behind this decision remain largely undisclosed, leading to questions about internal company affairs.Currently, Oleksiy Breht is temporarily fulfilling the duties of the head of the company, replacing Zaychenko.
All members of ‘Ukrenergo’s’ board have also been appointed as acting officials, maintaining the internal leadership structure while the management shifts are finalized.
Zaychenko’s appointment in June 2025 marked his rise to leadership; prior to that, he served as the chief dispatcher and held various key roles within the energy sector, having started his career in 1996 as an engineer specializing in the optimization of electrical regimes at ‘Ukrenergo’.Additionally, reports have emerged indicating that Russia intends to file a lawsuit against ‘Ukrenergo’ seeking compensation for electricity flow transfers in 2022, highlighting ongoing political and economic tensions within the strategically vital energy sector of Ukraine.
