Naftogaz intensifies negotiations for direct liquefied natural gas imports from the USA

In its quest to strengthen energy independence and diversify sources of gas supply, Ukraine’s Naftogaz has embarked on active negotiations with American producers for the direct import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the country.

Announcing these initiatives, Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretsky told Bloomberg that the company is not only inviting American partners to participate in joint investment projects but is also in discussions with several American suppliers regarding the signing of direct supply contracts.

Currently, around 10% of Ukraine’s gas imports are supplied from U.S.

LNG, significantly enhancing the country’s energy security and reducing reliance on traditional sources.

Meanwhile, on the global stage, energy flows are shifting, with Europe rapidly developing infrastructure for receiving LNG, creating new opportunities for diversification.

In August, Germany launched its second LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven, marking a crucial step in reducing dependence on Russian gas.

Additionally, TotalEnergies emphasizes that, considering the expansion of export capacities in the USA and Qatar, Europe will be able to withstand a potential ban on Russian gas imports starting from 2028, ensuring energy stability in the future.
