German Foreign Minister Predicts Guaranteed Defeat for Russia in NATO Conflict
The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wastenhöfer, made a clear statement regarding the future confrontation between Russia and the Alliance, affirming that Russia stands no chance of victory against NATO.
Wastenhöfer emphasized that NATO member countries are capable and prepared to defend their territory against any acts of aggression from Russia, which, according to him, is attempting to lure them into a trap of escalation.
In an interview with Bloomberg, the diplomat underlined: “Our countries are not interested in escalation, but Russia might be trying to provoke us to drag us into continuous conflict.
Therefore, we must be ready for any scenario and understand that Russia has no chance of winning.” This statement is the latest indication of Europe’s growing frustration with Russia’s apparent attempts, especially by Vladimir Putin, to challenge NATO’s defenses, threatening a possible attack by the end of the decade.
Wastenhöfer also highlighted the importance of increasing military expenditures in Germany, reaffirming Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s commitment to transforming the German armed forces into the most powerful army in Europe.
Earlier, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expressed the view that Russia currently lacks the capacity to attack NATO countries, while Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans warned that Russia is mobilizing more troops and producing more weapons than needed for its war in Ukraine.
Additionally, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson stressed the need to bolster preparedness for potential armed conflict amid the growing military threats from Moscow.
In this context, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared that the world is not approaching a third world war, calling for calm and diplomatic efforts to contain global instability.
