Danish Prime Minister Warns of Emerging Hybrid Warfare Threats in Europe

Chas Pravdy - 26 September 2025 13:16

Following a series of incidents involving unidentified drones in Danish airspace, the country’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed serious concerns about the escalating threat of hybrid warfare that has gripped the entire European region.

She emphasized that recent events, including the closure of major airports and flight cancellations due to unknown unmanned aircraft, signal the beginning of a new era in hostile tactics.

According to her, the drones were operating in a coordinated manner, seemingly operated by an experienced actor, possibly a state aiming to weaken European security and increase Kremlin influence, with Russia suspected as the primary culprit.

These developments have prompted a surge in readiness measures and heightened security protocols across Denmark, including the strengthening of counter-drone systems and increased military presence at strategic points.

While authorities have yet to identify exact responsibility, the overall situation indicates rising tensions and the need for a unified response to these hybrid threats.

Defense officials highlighted that despite current uncertainties, Scandinavian nations are stepping up security efforts to protect critical infrastructure amidst growing challenges posed by Russia’s testing of NATO allies.

This situation underscores the importance of adapting defense strategies to counter modern hybrid tactics, which combine military, cyber, and informational warfare to destabilize and intimidate European nations.
