Belarus Confirms Deployment of Russian «Oreshnik» Missile System on Its Territory: A Cautious Step in the International Security Context
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus officially announced that the country has deployed the Russian strategic missile system «Oreshnik» on its territory, emphasizing that this move responds to current security challenges and aims to safeguard national interests.
This decision forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen Belarus’s defense capabilities and maintain a balance of power in the region.
Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, speaking at an international forum in New York on the International Day for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, highlighted that the deployment of «Oreshnik» is a defensive measure fully compliant with international norms and obligations.
According to him, additional Russian military assets, including missile technologies, serve as guarantees for Belarus’s sovereignty and are not intended for provocations or arms races.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko later appealed to Vladimir Putin to place the Russian «Oreshnik» system on Belarusian soil.
These developments are linked to the recent military exercises «West-2025», which also involved U.S.
observers and tested the missile system in question.
The exercises underscore strategic dialogue and power balance in the region, attracting significant international attention.
