Hungarian fighters intercept five Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea: NATO’s firm stance on airspace defense

On September 25th, Hungarian air forces conducted a rapid interception of five Russian military aircraft observed near the Baltic Sea region.

According to NATO military command, two Hungarian Gripen fighters were scrambled from the Šiauliai airbase in Lithuania to intercept a group of Russian planes, which included two Su-30 and Su-35 fighters and three MiG-31 aircraft.

These aircraft flew close to the airspace of Latvia, prompting a swift response from alliance forces.

Military experts noted that the Russian jets traversed near the Baltic region, heightening concerns over regional security.The Lithuanian base in Šiauliai played a crucial role, showcasing coordination among NATO allies and Hungary’s commitment to NATO’s collective defense.

NATO officials stressed that such quick reactions are vital to protect eastern European borders and guarantee regional stability.

Earlier, activity of Russian aircraft was also detected in the Alaskan air defense zone, raising additional alarm for US defense systems.Last week, Russian MiG-31 planes also violated Estonian airspace, sparking discussions within NATO about appropriate responses and strategic deterrence measures.

These incidents highlight the ongoing importance of joint efforts to counteract aggression and uphold the security of Europe’s eastern flank.
