Chas Pravdy - 25 September 2025 18:24

According to investigations by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), five high-ranking officers from the Russian military have been formally notified of suspicion concerning their involvement in large-scale airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure in the Sumy region, which took place in March 2022.

The evidence indicates that Russian forces dropped over 20 FAB-500 aerial bombs, destroying residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, and health complexes, with the apparent aim of inflicting maximum civilian harm.

As a result of these strikes, 15 civilians lost their lives, including children, and another five were wounded.

The SBU reports that the organization and execution of these attacks were directed by senior officials of the Western Military District of Russia: Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlyov, commander of the Western Military District, and his deputy, Aleksei Zavizion.

Additional high-ranking figures involved include Lieutenant General Oleg Makovetsky, commander of the 6th Air and Air Defense Army; Lieutenant General Yuriy Podoplelov, chief of staff of the 6th Army; Major General Denis Kulsha, commander of the 105th Air Division; and Colonel Volodymyr Fedoseev, commander of the 14th interceptor aviation regiment.

The investigation states that the aircraft departed from the Kursk region of Russia, launching attacks against more than a hundred civilian objects across Ukraine.

Previously, the Ukrainian counterintelligence agency detained two Russian agents in Kyiv region, who were allegedly transferring Ukrainian SIM cards to Russia on behalf of the FSB for use in hostile drones, aiming to improve their communication and navigation capabilities in clandestine operations against Ukraine.
