Recent statements by senior EU officials have heightened concerns over security in Europe and possible measures in response to Russia’s aggressive actions in the airspace.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen openly warns that any illegal intrusion by Russian military aircraft into member states’ airspace could result in the use of force.

She explicitly stated: ‘We must defend every inch of our territory by all possible means, which means that after clear warnings, the option of shooting down such fighter jets remains on the table.’ The politician highlighted that last week, Russian MiG fighters flew for 12 minutes over Estonia’s airspace near the Gulf of Finland, demonstrating aggressive behavior.

These developments are complemented by statements from U.S.

President Donald Trump, who stressed that NATO countries should shoot down Russian planes that violate their air sovereignty.

Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that alliance members are preparing to respond to any breaches of airspace, considering the use of military force against aircraft or drones based on intelligence about the threat level.

These signals indicate a move toward more decisive and coordinated actions amid increasing regional tensions.
