In the context of the change in the church calendar that took place in September 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) transitioned to a new style of date tracking, resulting in the cancellation of old dates and moving holidays 13 days earlier.

This change affected not only the dates but also the deeper traditions, specific religious rites, and spiritual nuances that accompany the celebrations throughout the year.

In October, believers will have a special opportunity to observe a number of significant holidays, including the Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, one of the most revered festivals, and the Feast of the Apostle Thomas, which holds deep symbolic meaning.

This period is filled with events that carry long-standing historical and spiritual significance.

Each holiday has its own customs, personal and communal rites, strengthening spiritual unity and faith among Ukrainian Orthodox parishioners.

The key dates that have been renewed in the calendar allow the church and its community to relate to history and modern times in a new way.

Specifically, the first days of October celebrate the Feast of the Virgin’s Intercession and other notable days dedicated to martyrs and apostles, emphasizing the rich spiritual heritage and historical experience of the church.

Therefore, modern Orthodox believers have the opportunity not only to celebrate but also to deepen their spiritual journey by exploring church traditions and history, enriching their faith with new meaning and inspiration at each step.
