Zelensky Claims: Putin Avoids Direct Negotiations, Trying to Buy Time for Continued Aggression
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a bold statement during a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting, asserting that Russian leadership is deliberately avoiding direct diplomatic talks and openly revealing its true intentions.
According to Zelensky, Vladimir Putin fears face-to-face negotiations with Ukraine and the international community and only appears abroad — such as in Beijing — to delay and reinforce his position, disguising his terrorist aims under the facade of diplomacy.
“The Russian delegate here is present, but he is not the one making real decisions.
He fears sitting across from Ukraine and the world and admitting that his goal is only war and destruction,” Zelensky emphasized. He added that Russia daily shelling and murdering Ukrainian civilians, destroying cities, and violating principles enshrined in the UN Charter, with no signs of retraction or commitment to international law.
Kyiv believes Moscow has no intention of returning to peaceful negotiations.
Furthermore, Zelensky shared that he discussed with U.S.
President Donald Trump several ideas to help bring peace and end the conflict.
Together with the UK, France, and over 30 other countries, Ukraine is actively building a new security architecture within the “Resilient Coalition,” aimed at uniting efforts to deter further aggression.
One key initiative involves establishing a joint air defense system capable of intercepting Russian missiles and drones, which, according to Zelensky, could compel Russia to cease aerial attacks and retreat from military confrontation on the ground.
“If there is no war in the skies, Russia cannot continue fighting on land,” he stated.
