As the international community observes, new expectations are emerging regarding America’s stance in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Unexpectedly, former US President Donald Trump made a statement that could alter diplomatic discussions and strategies.

Following a pivotal meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in New York and his subsequent speech, Trump claimed that Ukraine has the potential to defeat Russia and to reclaim all territories lost.

This declaration surprised European leaders and analysts, considering that Trump earlier doubted Ukraine’s capability for victory and emphasized negotiations involving concessions from both sides.

Significantly, his post on the social network Truth Social directly contradicted previous Trump administration positions, which predicted the war would end through negotiations and territorial compromises favoring Russia.

European politicians, analyzing this shift, were divided: some saw it as a sign of changing US policy, raising hope for a more united front, while others expressed skepticism that this was merely a tactical move to confuse Russia or to create an illusion of coherence.

Notably, the initial reactions from official European figures were restrained; many expressed doubt or sarcastically highlighted that Trump might change his stance again soon.

However, individuals like French President Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began to see potential for better coordination on Ukraine support.

During a press conference, they emphasized the importance of finding common ground and hinted that this change in rhetoric could positively influence European efforts to reduce energy dependency on Russia and strengthen backing for Kyiv.

Furthermore, there are indications of improving contacts between Trump and EU leaders, suggesting the possibility of increased cooperation.

Despite the optimism, concerns remain: several diplomats warn that the altered rhetoric could be a mere tactic, with little impact on the actual policies of the US or ongoing support for Ukraine.

Overall, European leaders remain cautious, hoping for further clarification and concrete actions that would translate into effective assistance in Ukraine’s resistance against Russia’s aggression.
