Ahead of Moldova’s parliamentary elections, the Russian foreign intelligence service made a provocative statement, accusing NATO of intentions to occupy the country.

According to Russian media sources, Western forces, particularly NATO, are allegedly concentrating their military units near Moldovan borders, including in Romania and Ukraine, preparing for the possible establishment of new military centers.

Reports claim that French and British troops are already stationed in Odessa and are readying for possible provocations aimed at facilitating the seizure of Transnistria.

Russian agencies also warn of potential vote falsifications during the upcoming elections scheduled for September 28 and of mass protests planned within Moldova.

They suggest that Moldovan President Maia Sandu might request foreign military assistance if the situation escalates, potentially leading to conflict escalation.

Furthermore, Russia is allegedly preparing provocations against Transnistria and Russian troops stationed in the region to justify external intervention.

These actions, according to sources, are part of a broader strategy to destabilize the region and promote Moscow’s interests against Moldova’s European integration aspirations.

Prior to the elections, 74 individuals were detained in Moldova related to possible provocations.

Russian intelligence justifies their claims by suggesting that European countries aim to demonstrate their resolve amid unsuccessful attempts to deploy a coalition of willing states in Ukraine.

Bloomberg reported that Moscow is spending millions of dollars to interfere in Moldovan elections and derail the country’s European integration process, recruiting Moldovans abroad and launching large-scale disinformation campaigns and protest actions.
