Moldova on the Brink of Crisis: Russia’s Intentions Threaten the Nation — Sandu Warns

Amid escalating geopolitical tensions and ongoing attempts to destabilize the region, Moldovan President Maia Sandu issued an urgent appeal to her nation.

In her emergency video message, she warned about the potential transformation of Moldova into a launching pad for Russian aggressive actions, including an invasion of Ukraine’s Odesa region, which would pose a serious threat to regional security.

She highlighted that the Kremlin is actively spending hundreds of millions of euros to buy votes and spread disinformation, aiming to weaken public awareness and bolster pro-Russian sentiments.

Official sources report that the country faces a massive information attack: hundreds of fake messages, provocations, and financial incentives for instigators seeking to create chaos, violence, and fear among the population.

Sandu emphasized that if such a scenario unfolds, Moldova and the entire region could face collapse: state disintegration, closed borders, restricted movement, and the possibility of Transnistria becoming a destabilization hotspot.

The president called on all citizens to remain vigilant and united in resisting pro-Russian forces aiming to drag the country into conflict.

She stated that among Kremlin agents within Moldova are those willing to sell their country for money, ignoring European values and prioritizing personal gain.

This situation has caused widespread societal concern, especially in light of recent police raids and arrests related to planned mass unrest during the upcoming elections.

Authorities confiscated weapons, explosives, and specialized equipment during the searches, while suspects cooperate with Russian intelligence.

Experts warn that Moscow is seeking to reduce Moldova’s European integration prospects and restore influence through disinformation and financial pressure.

The government’s future actions aim to strengthen national security and counter external threats, as safeguarding independence and stability is now more crucial than ever.
