North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a surprising statement expressing his willingness to engage in negotiations with the United States.

In his recent speech, he emphasized that easing tensions and finding pathways to stable peace require abandoning policies of unilateral pressure and demands for complete denuclearization.

According to Kim, North Korea has never considered giving up its nuclear arsenal for sanctions relief or economic pressure, as such issues threaten the regime’s survival.

He urged Washington to consider dialogue based on mutual respect and cooperation rather than unilateral ultimatums.

This marks the first call from North Korea directly to the US in a long time, which surprised experts and diplomats who have long awaited a resumption of negotiations.

At the same time, Kim maintained that North Korea will never relinquish its nuclear weapons, viewing them as essential for security and sovereignty.

Western analysts suggest that this move might be aimed at persuading Seoul’s new liberal government and the US administration to use these proposals as a basis for dialogue.

However, North Korea considers sanctions and pressure ineffective, further isolating the country and complicating diplomatic efforts.

The nuclear issue remains central and highly contested in the region, with ongoing military escalations.

A US president’s upcoming visit to South Korea is also expected to influence diplomatic developments.

An analyst notes that Kim’s stance is also an attempt to rally internal support and external backing to strengthen his regime amidst global instability and internal challenges.
