UK Warns: In Case of Russian Aircraft Intrusion into NATO Airspace, Britain Will Respond Decisively

The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office has issued a clear and firm warning that any provocative actions by Russian military aircraft targeting NATO member countries will trigger swift and resolute responses from London.
During an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized that NATO must be prepared for all scenarios and possible reactions to violations of its airspace.
She highlighted the recent incident where three Russian military planes breached Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland, describing the event as ‘aggressive and reckless.’ Cooper referenced President Vladimir Putin’s statements, warning that Russia’s reckless actions could escalate into a direct military confrontation between Russia and NATO countries.
She stressed that NATO, being a defensive alliance, is ready to implement all necessary measures to protect its airspace and territory without hesitation.
Any unpermitted incursions into NATO airspace by Russian aircraft will be met with decisive retaliation.
Cooper’s comments came amid increased tensions after Russian fighters violated Estonian airspace and lingered there for more than 12 minutes, prompting NATO to scramble fighter jets and call in diplomatic protests from Lithuanian and Latvian officials who summoned Russian embassy representatives.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna warned that Russia’s provocations are bringing Europe closer to conflict than it has been in recent years, urging unity and firm response to ensure regional stability.
