Security Service of Ukraine Uncovers Network of Russian Agents Smuggling Ukrainian SIM Cards for Attack Drones

In a major operation, Ukrainian security forces successfully detained two Russian agents in Kyiv region who were involved in smuggling Ukrainian mobile SIM cards to Russia for use in military drones.
According to investigators, this operation was crucial in enhancing the Russian military’s capabilities, as the microchips and SIM cards were used to improve communication and navigation of unmanned aerial vehicles deployed in combat zones.
The detained individuals include a former law enforcement officer and another resident of the region, both of whom underwent extensive Russian training before purchasing Ukrainian SIM cards and transferring them to Europe.
There, accomplices of the criminal network shipped microchips to the cities of Naberezhnye Chelny and Yelabuga, where manufacturing plants for ‘Shahed’ drones are situated.
It is also noteworthy that one of the tasks assigned to Russian agents was recruiting employees of Ukrainian mobile companies to obtain intelligence from within the local systems.
During searches, law enforcement seized smartphones containing contacts with Russian handlers and foreign collaborators.
The suspects face charges of state treason, which carry a life imprisonment sentence.
Efforts are ongoing to hold accountable other Russian agents residing within the EU, with active investigations into their networks.
Recent reports also include the detention of a married couple who installed video cameras for the purpose of directing airstrikes against Kyiv.
