In Moldova, a large-scale counter-terrorism operation resulted in the detention of 74 individuals suspected of preparing mass protests during the parliamentary elections held on September 28.

According to sources, the operation aimed to thwart pro-Russian groups planning to destabilize the country, working closely with Russian intelligence agencies.

Official reports reveal that the suspects had been undergoing training in Serbia, where they learned to handle firearms, use special equipment, and strategies for destabilization.

Viktor Furtună, head of the Organized Crime Prevention Prosecutor’s Office, stated that the investigation began back in July, and during this time, authorities identified a group of persons traveling systematically to Serbia for preparatory activities.

Searches were carried out, resulting in the confiscation of weapons, ammunition, military camouflage, passports, tents, and other evidence confirming criminal intent.

Authorities warn that if the suspects are found guilty in court, they could face prison sentences ranging from four to eight years.

It also became known from collected materials that many of the involved individuals were instructed by Russian agents, and some Moldovans were lured to Serbia under the pretext of pilgrimage, only to be enrolled in training for protests.

Further steps are expected to be taken to combat foreign agents’ destabilization operations.

It is noteworthy that these events occur amid heightened tensions surrounding the electoral process and the ongoing information war led by Russia in the region.

Earlier, international media reported Russia’s plans to interfere in Moldova’s elections, and Moldovan President Maia Sandu issued a sharp statement warning about the threat to the country’s independence.

This situation underscores the seriousness of external efforts to influence Moldova’s internal politics and destabilize the region.
