Israeli President Condemns Recognition of Palestine: An Israeli Perspective on the International Move

The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has expressed strong disapproval of the decision made by several countries, including Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, to officially recognize the State of Palestine.
On his social media platform X, Herzog described this move as a “sad day for everyone seeking genuine peace,” emphasizing that such actions will only deepen the darkness in the region and will not facilitate meaningful negotiations.
Herzog highlighted that this step will not aid in the release of hostages but will instead encourage malicious forces.
Referencing the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, he pointed out that militants continue to hold 48 hostages in tunnels under Gaza, and that the recognition of Palestine by these governments is a morale boost for terrorist groups. The families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza also condemned the decision made by Ottawa, Canberra, and London.
They stated that recognizing Palestinian statehood without securing the release of their loved ones only hampers efforts to free them—a reflection of the tense and complex situation unfolding in the region. On September 21, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom announced official recognition of the Palestine State, making them the first among the G7 nations to do so.
Portugal followed suit later the same day, declaring recognition of an independent Palestinian state.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to expand Jewish settlements on the West Bank, warning that these recognition moves are a “reward for terror” and reaffirming that a Palestinian state in that territory will not be established.Amid these geopolitical developments, Israel is preparing for escalated actions in Gaza, while global communities discuss new challenges and potential scenarios for the conflict’s progression.
