Estonia Condemns Russia’s Airspace Aggression and Calls for Decisive European Action

Estonia has officially classified the recent incursion of Russian aircraft into its airspace as part of a broader pattern of unacceptable and aggressive behavior by the Russian Federation.
According to senior Estonian diplomat Jonathan Vseviev, the incident that occurred last week should not be viewed as an isolated case but rather as part of a series of provocative acts aimed at an independent nation.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that over the past few weeks, the region has witnessed repeated assaults involving Russian military planes and drones, occurring amidst Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine.
These developments reaffirm that the Kremlin continues to demonstrate its proactive aggression without any legal or moral justification.Vseviev added that there is an urgent need for a firm international response, and thus, the policies of deterrence and security must be strengthened.
The former Estonian ambassador to the United States urged the European community to act decisively, pointing out that insufficient reactions only encourage further escalation.
“Blurring borders or tolerating such incursions dangerously undermines regional security.
We must fortify our positions and clearly define the limits of airspace protection,” he stated. He stressed that a system should be established to impose consequences on violations, ensuring that Russia faces significant repercussions for each provocative act to prevent future incidents.
Estonian authorities are already preparing measures to safeguard borders and protect their citizens.
The diplomat remarked that this situation necessitates not only diplomatic measures but also resolute actions by the European Union and NATO to curb Russia’s ongoing aggression.Earlier reports indicated that Russian MiG-31 fighters entered Estonian airspace on March 11, heightening concerns and prompting calls for increased international security measures.
Experts emphasize the importance of strengthening allied defenses and ensuring that such actions do not go unanswered.
