Establishment of the ‘Lava’ Drone Systems Battalion: A New Step in Ukraine’s Military Technological Advancement
The 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, known as ‘Khartiya,’ has announced the formation of a cutting-edge unit that aims to revolutionize modern military operations— the ‘Lava’ drone and robotic systems battalion.
This ambitious initiative seeks to consolidate the corps’ developments and expertise across various brigades in the realm of unmanned and automated systems designed for reconnaissance, data collection and analysis, and operational support in contemporary combat environments.
According to the corps’ press service, the primary objective of establishing ‘Lava’ is to enhance the combat readiness of its units by integrating innovative technologies such as deep terrain reconnaissance, pinpoint strikes behind enemy lines, automated information gathering using artificial intelligence, and improved logistics tailored for combat conditions.
The battalion’s core functions will include real-time high-resolution video reconnaissance and surveillance, precision strikes, mine-laying and clearance operations, logistical support, medical evacuation using robotic platforms, and conducting assault missions with robotic systems to accomplish complex objectives swiftly and accurately.
Structurally, ‘Lava’ will bring together engineering, technical, and analytical expertise accumulated by the ‘Khartiya’ units through practical deployment of UAVs and ground robots.
Notably, the corps has already achieved several milestones, including executing Ukraine’s first robotic assault operation, deploying ground robots for medical evacuation, and developing data collection and analysis systems for unmanned complexes.
For recruitment, the unit seeks professionals of various specializations: engineers, technicians, programmers, UAV pilots, ground system operators, data analysts, IT specialists, logisticians, drivers, and unit coordinators—all dedicated to creating a highly technological military force.
This battalion represents a vital step toward modernizing Ukraine’s armed forces by blending soldier skills with advanced technological solutions.
