Ukraine Calls for Urgent UN Security Council Meeting Over Russia’s Airspace Violations in Estonia

Ukraine has taken a significant step to address emerging threats to global security by formally requesting the United Nations Security Council convene an urgent emergency session.
This move comes amid escalating tensions triggered by Russia’s aggressive incursions into Estonian airspace, violating sovereignty and prompting Estonia to seek international support.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced on social media that, due to the breach carried out by Russian aircraft over Estonia, the international community must respond decisively and unitedly to address this unprecedented challenge.
This marks the first time in 34 years that Estonia, a member of the UN since 1989, has officially appealed for an emergency Security Council meeting.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the meeting is scheduled for September 22 and will be the first such emergency session in decades, highlighting the gravity of Russia’s actions.
Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized that Russia’s ongoing violations undermine key principles of international security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity—actions that require collective international condemnation.
The Ukrainian official underscored the importance of a firm response, noting that this incident is a stark reminder of the increasing threat to stability in Europe, and it necessitates a unified stance from the global community to prevent further destabilization and aggression.
