Trump Demands Return of Bagram Air Base: Threats and Political Drama Surrounding Afghanistan’s Strategic Location

Former U.S.

President Donald Trump unexpectedly raised the issue of regaining control over the Bagram Air Base, which has been under Afghan authorities’ control since 2021.

In a recent post on the social media platform Truth Social, he declared that if Afghanistan refuses to transfer the base back to the United States, his country is prepared to take serious measures.

“If Afghanistan does not return the Bagram Air Base, built by the United States, very BAD THINGS will happen!!!” he wrote.

Previously, Trump had announced that the U.S.

was negotiating with the Afghan government regarding the return of this strategically important military asset.

Experts warn that Trump’s efforts to retake the base could be seen as a potential re-invasion requiring thousands of troops and advanced air defense systems.

Recall that in February 2020, the Trump administration signed an agreement with the Taliban, which stipulated the complete withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, including U.S.

troops.

However, there have been speculations about leaving a small contingent to ensure stability, but this plan was never realized, and the country came under Taliban control.
