Ukraine Experiences Significant Decline in Agricultural Production in 2025: Official Statistics Analysis

By the end of the first eight months of 2025, Ukraine’s agricultural sector faced a notable decrease in production, as confirmed by the State Statistics Service.
Official data indicate that the index of agricultural output for this period was only 91.6% compared to the same timeframe last year, reflecting a decline of 8.4%.
These results point to a substantial contraction in agricultural activities, which could have serious implications for food security and the national economy.Disaggregated by types of products, the decrease is even more pronounced in crop production, which declined by 9.7%, whereas livestock production fell by 4.9%.
The most affected are large agricultural enterprises, where output has dropped to just 90.4% of last year’s level.
On the other hand, household farms show a better figure—93.7%, indicating that private small-scale farmers continue to contribute significantly despite current challenges.Certain regions are experiencing more severe setbacks, especially those impacted by ongoing military conflicts or economic hardships.
In Donetsk region, agricultural output was only about 53.6% of the previous year’s figures, representing one of the worst outcomes.
Similar declines were observed in Kherson (72.2%), Dnipropetrovsk (78.5%), and Poltava (79.0%) regions.Conversely, some regions are demonstrating positive trends.
Lviv region has registered the highest growth, exceeding last year’s production levels at 102%, and Ivano-Frankivsk has reached 100.6%, indicating regional recovery and potential resilience within Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
