Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently made a significant statement during a Defense Council meeting, revealing intentions to elevate Ukraine’s defense industry through increased international cooperation and the expansion of military exports.

According to the head of state, this move aims to continue strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capacity, integrate Ukrainian weapon systems into the global market, and generate additional financial resources for the country.During his address, which took place on Friday, September 19, Zelensky emphasized that the primary goal in the near future is to rapidly scale up the production capacity of Ukraine’s arms industry, fulfill the army’s needs, and maintain sufficient stockpiles for strategic security.

He highlighted that current funding for military manufacturing remains inadequate, prompting plans to increase the industry’s financial base primarily through targeted exports of certain types of weaponry.

“We have devised a clear plan — to export specific types of weapons to cover our defense needs and generate funds that will enable us to develop cutting-edge military equipment, such as drones and missile systems,” the president stated. He pointed out that Ukraine has significant reserves in manufacturing, particularly in the segment of maritime drones and anti-tank weapons, which are currently in surplus.

This surplus allows the country to reduce pressure on domestic markets and boost exports.

“We are already largely exceeding our internal needs in some categories of modern weaponry, which positions us advantageously on the international market.

We have the potential to ramp up the export of items like maritime unmanned vehicles, anti-tank weapons, and other high-tech military systems,” Zelensky concluded.Overall, the Ukrainian leader believes that opening up exports of Ukrainian military technology will not only strengthen national defense but also serve as a crucial financial resource for further developing the country’s defense industry.
